Sony has a busy schedule planned over the coming weeks, and a small part of this will include new free games on PS4. Like previous months, fresh titles will be available download in early December as of the PlayStation Plus and PS Now services. This will extend to the PS5, with most PlayStation 4 games being backwards-compatible on the next-gen console. Most new titles provided by Sony will be playable on the PS5, with better load times included.

November also included a big PS5 freebie, with gamers able to download Bugsnax as part of the official lineup.

Sony said at the time: “The very first PS5 game to join PlayStation Plus is Young Horses’ ultra-charming, whimsical first-person adventure Bugsnax!

“Play an investigative journalist who has set out to explore Snaktooth Island, home to legendary half-bug half-snack creatures, Bugsnax.

“Discover, hunt and capture all 100 critters while also tracking down and reuniting the island’s inhabitants.”

There was a time when PlayStation Plus subscribers could grab a number of titles from different platforms, including PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.

While this has been phased out, there should come a time when Sony will offer more free PS4 and PS5 games.

Four free games a month sounds like a great upgrade and will make it easier to sell the PlayStation 5.

But there’s been no confirmation on when this might happen, or if this will be part of a bigger revamp.

The latest news from Sony on the subject is that they do plan to provide more free PS5 games as part of PlayStation Plus.

There is no guarantee that this will start in December, as nothing has been confirmed solidly by Sony.

But the good news is free PS5 games will be coming to the popular subscription service, with Sony confirming this week:

“All PlayStation Plus members will continue to receive at least two great PS4 games each month.

“It is our goal to add PS5 games regularly to the monthly games lineup, so check back with us at PS Blog for our monthly PlayStation Plus announcements.

“If a PS4 game is playable on the PS5, and you are still a PlayStation Plus member, you will be able to download it onto your PS5 and play.”

Until more next-gen games are announced, PS5 console owners can enjoy the new PS Plus Collection.

The PlayStation Plus Collection contains some of the biggest and best PS4 games, including The Last of Us Remastered, Ratchet and Clank, Infamous, Uncharted 4, Bloodborne and God of War.

That’s on top of games like Days Gone, Detroit Become Human, Until Dawn, Persona 5 and Resident Evil 7.

PlayStation Plus members who are PS5 owners will be able to redeem and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman: Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5.

The PlayStation Plus Collection is available now and the number and availability of titles may vary by country.

Once a player redeems a game from the PlayStation Plus Collection, they can keep the games for as long as they are an active PlayStation Plus member. PS4 games redeemed from the PlayStation Plus Collection and played on PS5 will see benefits such as increased loading speed and improved or more stable framerates with PS5’s Game Boost.
