After a long wait, movie fans were getting ready to enjoy Denis Villeneuve’s Dune this Christmas. However, due to the on-going pandemic, Warner Bros decided to postpone the film’s release to October 2021. And now Frank Herbert’s son has spoken out on the blockbuster, praising the new adaptation and its director.

In a new interview, Brian Herbert said: “I was very impressed by the trailer.”

The author explained how he and his were about to watch several scenes of the new Dune movie being shot in Budapest last year.

He added: “This is a really big movie, a major project that will forever be considered the definitive film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel.

“Fans are going to love this movie. Denis Villeneuve is the perfect director to do Dune.”

Despite Brian saying that the new Dune movie is best seen in cinemas, Warner Bros have decided to simultaneously release all their 2021 movies on their US streaming service HBO Max alongside movie theatres.

WarnerMedia Chair and CEO Ann Sarnoff stated last week: “We’re living in unprecedented times which call for creative solutions, including this new initiative for the Warner Bros. Pictures Group. No one wants films back on the big screen more than we do. We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theaters in the U.S. will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021.

“With this unique one-year plan, we can support our partners in exhibition with a steady pipeline of world-class films, while also giving moviegoers who may not have access to theaters or aren’t quite ready to go back to the movies the chance to see our amazing 2021 films.

“We see it as a win-win for film lovers and exhibitors, and we’re extremely grateful to our filmmaking partners for working with us on this innovative response to these circumstances.”

Of course, it’s currently unclear what this means for UK movie fans since HBO Max isn’t available in Britain.

What seems likely to happen is a PVOD deal being made with a platform like Sky.

In the meantime, Warner Bros’ Wonder Woman 1984 is hitting UK cinemas on October 16 and could potentially go to streaming a month later.

Dune is released in cinemas on October 1, 2020.
