The film centred around a murderous doll named Chucky

Slasher movie Child’s Play is to return as an eight-part TV series, it has been confirmed.

The original 1988 film centred around a doll named Chucky who housed the soul of murderer Charles Lee Ray. It spawned a number of sequels, including the latest last year with Cult Of Chucky.

Don Mancini, who wrote the original story, confirmed the news of a new TV version of the movie on his Twitter page. He shared a gif which featured the scrambled image of Chucky and the words: “Child’s Play the TV series. Do not adjust your set.”

Though Mancini did not give away any further details, Bloody Disgusting reports the series will be delivered in eight one-hour instalments. Brad Dourif, who voiced Chucky in the movies, has also been confirmed to return for the new show.

Earlier this year, Mancini spoke to the site, telling them the series had been “deliberately set up at the end of the last movie” and that the tone would be “dark and disturbing.” Producer David Kirschner, meanwhile, said he was “incredibly excited about the series and to explore a world in which we’ve never done before.”

He added: “Don has taken the franchise in a wonderfully frightening direction. He seems to outdo himself every time.”
