Rockstar Games look to have big plans for the PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021, but that won’t include GTA 6.

Grand Theft Auto gamers have been waiting for years to find out more about the next game in the popular franchise, and it looks like they will be stuck doing this for a little while longer.

The warning signs have been there since 2020, when Rockstar Games announced its plans to launch an enhanced version of GTA 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

While we don’t know exactly how far this new version of Grand Theft Auto V will go in terms of new features and gameplay, Rockstar Games will be releasing it during 2021.

The next-gen GTA 5 won’t be arriving until the second half of the current year, but there’s seem very little chance that parent company Take-Two Interactive will want to distract from its launch.

It seems to rule out a GTA 6 release date announcement in early 2021, and that’s just the first piece of news supporting that outlook.

One ex-Grand Theft Auto leaker and trusted Rockstar Games source, Yan2295 has also provided an update.

It should be noted that this came via a message on social media that was mostly focused on confirming that the person doesn’t know when GTA 6 will be released.

But if there had been any hopes of a big update regarding the next Grand Theft Auto game in the coming weeks, they would have been quickly dashed as well.

The post from Yann reads: “Yes GTA 6 is being developed. No, it’s not coming soon. No, I don’t know when it’s gonna be announced or released. You can stop asking now.”

A game doesn’t need to be a finished product to be officially announced by a development team, but it looks like fans will be waiting until at least the end of the year for GTA 6 news.

One piece of good news for PS5 and Xbox Series X gamers is that Take-Two has been busy building a team that can handle next-gen development.

Speaking last year, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, via Seeking Alpha, revealed that the company had gone on a massive recruitment drive, which should prove useful when it comes to launching new games.

“The issue is the rare resource you have to allocate is creative talent. We, like our biggest competitors, have plenty of open slots. We’re always looking for the best and the brightest,” Zelnick confirmed during a 2020 investment event.

“So, we can’t just line people up and fill those open slots. And that is our bottleneck for increasing further our production capacity, which is why we’ve hired so many developers in the past years. And that obviously has been a big part of our headcount growth and much, much less, so our administrative fixed overhead.”

The only downside to all this is that the latest news from sources suggests that GTA 6 is still years away from launch.

And from what has been shared by sources, the game might not hit shelves until late 2022 at the earliest, making for the longest wait yet for a Grand Theft Auto game.
