Developers Treyarch will be taking on a big project in December, with the first Call of Duty Black Ops Warzone season scheduled to kick off.

The news was shared by Activision earlier this week, and will be an important part of the company’s strategy moving forward.

While Warzone is a Battle Royale spin-off version of Modern Warfare, it remains a hugely popular mode.

Not only can you play it for free on PS4, Xbox One and PC, but it continues to receive new content and support from Infinity Ward.

But this is all set to change in the coming months as the game switches from Modern Warfare to Black Ops Cold War, which is scheduled to release next month.

Activision confirmed this when they first unveiled its new Cold War project, and have now released further details on when we can expect the first crossover season to take place.

According to the latest announcement from Activision, Call of Duty Black Ops Warzone will begin in December.

Not only that, but we should start hearing more about the new content plans in the coming weeks, when Black Ops Cold War hits shelves.

We already know that new weapons and items will be made playable in Verdansk, but fans are also expecting a new map to be released as part of the deal.

Recent leaks suggest a winter map is in the works but this remains unverified at this point, with Activision staying tight-lipped on that area of gameplay.

Activision president Rob Kostich had this to say on the new Warzone crossover during a recent earnings call, commenting:

“All the awesome new Black Ops Cold War weapons and operators you unlock and your level 1 to 255 progression will be usable in Black Ops and in Warzone.

And here is what has already been confirmed by developers Treyarch for when Black Ops is released in November:

“Warzone will continue to evolve after the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, interweaving some of Black Ops Cold War’s themes, weapons, and operators into this blockbuster free-to-play Battle Royale experience.

“Specifically, both games will share post-launch seasonal content through the return of the Battle Pass system and the Store, as well as share a progression system.

“At launch, Black Ops Cold War is set to include a brand-new leveling journey that will later connect to Warzone, allowing players to unlock new functional content to be used in both titles. In addition, both games are set to share post-launch seasonal content through the return of the Battle Pass system and the Store.

“On top of all new Black Ops Cold War content, Warzone players will still have access to previously earned content: Weapons, Operators, Blueprints, Equipment, Cosmetics, and so on, that they earned during their experiences in Modern Warfare.

“Please note that previously earned Modern Warfare content is only available and usable in Modern Warfare and Warzone.”
