1. Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara, £10.99

If you want sultry stand out lashes this mascara will be right up your street. This one comes with a big brush – 50% more bristles than a standard one from Max Factor – coat all lashes and add some volum.

Our Verdict: “It didn’t make my eyelashes long enough/ separated enough as some others, but certainly wasn’t going anywhere. Ever. It may still be there.” 4/5

2. L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Mascara, £10.99

The multi-comb applicator makes it easier to coat and separate every single lash.

Our Verdict: “It stays on all day and doesn’t flake off onto my cheeks. The brush is a bit odd looking but it works in giving you a ‘fake’ eyelash look with proper staying power.” 10/10

3. Bourjois Volume Glamour Max Waterproof Mascara, £4.45

The full round brush helps to ‘plump up’ lashes and it comes enriched with black pearl extract for ultra black, luminous finish.

Our verdict: “The brush is too large for my liking so I ended up with it all over my eyelids and on my nose to start with (which I struggled to get off). I couldn’t really get a decent curl on the lashes due to the massive brush either.” 2/5

4. Clarins Double Fix Mascara, £14

Can be used as a top coat to seal lashes and eyebrows after using normal lash and brow products or on it’s own and is totally sweat and water resistant.

Our Verdict: “ This little beauty is perfect if you have a favourite, but not exactly water-tight, mascara. Just slick a layer over the top and voila! Also handy for keeping rogue eyebrow hairs in check. Only thing is it’s a bit pricey.” 4/5

5. Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara, £20.50

The cone shaped applicator brush is supposed to hold exactly the right amount of product you need to give lashes the perfect volume and lift.

Our Verdict: “Foolproof, rich and deliciously dark, I love this mascara. I’m also good at spending money I don’t have. But, truth be told, however long and fluttery it made my lashes, I wouldn’t splash out £20.50 on a mascara.

“Loyal it may be, clingy even. And it may have stuck by me through a pretty tough week, but I am not Victoria Beckham. I am Sweaty Betty, thank you very much.” 3/5

6. Maybelline’s Illegal Length Waterproof Mascara, £8.49

This waterproof mascara seals fibres onto the lash to keep the product in place.

Our verdict: “Maybelline’s Illegal length waterproof mascara is great for extending the eyelashes and provides complete protection all day. On application the brush is good at grabbing your lashes to create the extra bit of a boost that ultimately makes them look noticeable.” 4/5

7. Eyeko Beach Waterproof Mascara, £19

This cruelty-free mascara is lengthening and conditioning, containing coconut oil, sunscreen and waterproof pigments.

Our verdict: ‘Has sunscreen in – frankly ridiculous. But it’s also sunscreen-proof and waterproof and builds up pretty well. Great for volume, especially if you curl your lashes first.’
