Sky TV, broadband and landline customers are set to be hit with price hikes of up to £72 a year, the satellite company has confirmed. The price rise will impact existing telly and home broadband customers from April 1, 2021 …but this is no joke. Home phone customers will enjoy their current pricing until May 1, 2021. If you’re one of the unlucky ones to be hit with the increase to your monthly bills, Sky will confirm the price hike in an email or post between Wednesday February 17 and Saturday March 27, 2021.

If you’re planning to sign-up for a new contract with Sky TV, broadband or home phone, the price change will kick-in for new customers on February 17, 2021. The news comes days after rival telly and broadband providers BT and EE confirmed plans to increase prices for all customers in the coming weeks too.

The change in your monthly bill depends entirely on what Sky products you’re paying for and when you signed-up. Those who will be paying the maximum – an extra £72 annually – will need to be signed up to a whole host of Sky products, including satellite telly with all the trimmings, home phone, and superfast broadband.

According to Sky, most customers will see an increase of around £3 a month, roughly £36 a year. Only eight percent of its customer base will be charged the maximum £6 extra a month, or £72 a year. Depending on the deal when you signed up to Sky, or whether you have a special offer or discount applied to your account, can all impact the price hike.

You’ll need to wait for your personalised letter to land in the post to find out exactly what you’re going to be paying each month from April 1, 2021. It’s well worth waiting until you receive confirmation from Sky that your bill will be changing before getting in touch with the customer service team. Nothing is due to change for a good few weeks, so there’s plenty of time to renegotiate your terms if you’re out-of-contract with the company and would like a better deal.

However, we’ve got the break down of how the latest price rise will affect the standard Sky packages, which should give you a rough idea about how your bundle will change. If you’re poised to sign-up to a new contract with Sky, these are the new prices that you’ll need to pay…

  • Sky Talk International Extra rises from £12 to £14 a month

Fortunately for those with Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, Sky Kids, Sky Talk Evening, and Weekends Extra – none of these prices will be impacted by the latest price changes. So, you won’t have to worry about any changes to your monthly bills.

A spokesperson for Sky told Express.co.uk, “We appreciate the importance of keeping our customers informed, connected and entertained. We know price increases are never welcome and we try to keep prices down whilst still delivering the content our customers love, the flexibility to choose the package that suits them and with leading customer service.”

The latest price change from Sky was back in February 2020. Although it’s worth pointing out that annual changes like this are pretty common across the industry.

In the last year, Sky has rolled out a number of new updates to its Sky Q set-top box, including access to Amazon Prime (saving you juggling between HDMI inputs to watch its library of exclusive shows and films) and a free year subscription to discovery+ when you say the right words into your remote control. Sky continues to get first dibs on some of the most talked-about shows on telly, including SuccessionThe Undoing, Gangs of London, Chernobyl, Framing Britney Spears, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, Big Little LiesGame Of Thrones, and much more.
