If you’ve just checked your calendar – rest assured, it’s not April 1. Samsung really has announced a new range of six different paints designed to complement some of its Smart TVs. Not only that, Samsung says having your wall covered in one of its bespoke paint shades will make watching your 4K TV even better as it elicits an “uplifting emotional response”.

We’ve seen our fair share of accessories to enhance your telly viewing at home – from wall-mounted brackets, to after-market Philips’ Ambilight kits, but specific types of paint is one of the most unusual. Known as Living Colour, Samsung has created the paint to complement its hugely-popular The Serif, The Sero, and The Frame tellies.

As a quick refresher, The Serif is a premium QLED set that comes fitted with a contemporary metal TV stand that allows the TV to stand on its own. Available in Cloud White or Cotton Blue, it’s designed to be a piece of art, rather than a lifeless black square on the wall. The Sero is a telly that switches from landscape to portrait orientation with the touch of a button so you can watch Hollywood blockbusters and smartphone footage without black bars – despite the radically different filming styles. And finally, The Frame is a wall-mounted QLED set from Samsung with a – surprise, surprise – frame around the border of the screen. Samsung will display a number of prestigious works of art, with more being added all the time, to avoid the common complaint that generously-sized tellies are always an eyesore when they’re not switched on.

Collectively, these televisions are known as Samsung’s “Lifestyle TVs”. Samsung created the pots of paint specifically to complement these models, stating that it was “developed to create living spaces that work in harmony with a TV, elevate the overall aesthetic of the living room, and create a positive emotional response by using colour psychology.”

Samsung claims that one of the most common web searches is “what colour should I paint the wall behind my TV?”. With the LivingColour range, Samsung has provided an answer.

To do so, Samsung turned to colour expert Karen Haller, who has carefully curated two paint shades for each of the Samsung Lifestyle TV range. Samsung says that Karen selected a colour that perfectly matched the frames of each TV, and a separate complementary colour that would showcase the innovative aesthetics, and work seamlessly in a home setup.

Not only that, Karen considered how the current landscape has affected how people are using their spaces, and how they are feeling as a result of our new ways of living. “Using her knowledge of colour psychology, Karen has selected tones for the ‘LivingColour’ paint collection that would have a positive and uplifting emotional effect,” Samsung says.

The recommended pots of paint are as follows –

The Frame

Frame Beige (a direct match to the TV bezel)
A light and airy tone, providing reassurance, reliability and a sense of being grounded.

Restful Pine
A peaceful and restorative green to promote feelings of safety and harmony.

The Serif

Serif Cotton Blue (a direct match to the TV colour)
A Soft blue grey with an understated quality that’s restful for the psyche.

Champagne bliss
Soft pink hues provide a gentle energy to soothe and relax the mind.

The Sero

Sero Navy Blue (a direct match to the TV colour)
A dark blue tone to aid focus and concentration.

Bright Spark
A cool yellow with a lively, can do attitude. Full of optimism and energy.

Speaking about her process and selections, Karen Haller said: “Colour is an amazing phenomenon that can change how we feel, think, and behave in an instant. It’s a universal language that we all speak. The colour pairings for Samsung’s range of Lifestyle TVs were selected to match the personality and style of each TV, whilst also creating an environment that would be uplifting and ultimately complement your personality and lifestyle.”

The Samsung ‘LivingColour’ paints can be obtained free-of-charge from Monday 26th October 2020 by visiting the Samsung KX Space in Kings Cross, London.

On the LivingColour campaign, Samsung TV/AV Head of Marketing Eneida Kotsani commented: “We know the importance of a great looking TV with our Lifestyle TV range, and how these can play a role in creating the perfect living room. Accompanied with the LivingColour paints, we want to help customers have their ideal homes whilst everyone is indoors a little more than usual”.
