Marvel has recently released the first part of its Phase Four with the arrival of WandaVision. Black Widow was meant to be the first instalment from this phase, however the coronavirus meant the release schedule changed. This has left fans looking back over previous films and content, even questioning events from 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Why was Thor not allowed to wear the Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Endgame?

Fans will remember there was a debate over who should wear the Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Endgame.

As the Avengers went off into different timelines to try and gather the Infinity Stones, which saw Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson) lose her life.

When they came back together, they tried to bring things back to what they were, reversing Thanos’s (Josh Brolin) scheme with a simple click of a finger.

In doing this, a debate started about who should wield the gauntlet, with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) one of the people who felt they were able.

Part of this came from his guilt, it seemed, about being an Asgardian who did not protect the other realms.

However, eventually The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) said it was him who should do it, saying: “It has got to be me. You saw what those stones did to Thanos.

“They nearly killed him. None of you could survive; It’s like I was made for this.”

However, one theory has emerged about why Thor was not the one to wear it, and why he was not considered the one who should reverse the Snap.

Quora user, J.E Taylor, has suggested it may be due to some of Thor’s physical changes in Endgame which made him unsuitable to yield the gauntlet.

The user said: “Thor wanted very badly to wield the Gauntlet and had it been Thor from Infinity War, he could have done it.

“When he took all of the ionizing and heat radiation from the star at Nidavellir he almost died but all he needed to do was grab Stormbreaker and he was good as new.

“Thor we saw in Endgame was not the same guy.

“He was physically, and mentally, unfit to take that kind of punishment.”

In fact, the user went as far as to suggest Thor may not have even survived had he been given the opportunity to try it.

They continued: “If the Avengers had no other suitable options, they might have rolled the dice and let Thor do it.

“If they did do this, the chances were very high that Thor dies in his current condition. They had a better option in Bruce Banner…

“The team wasn’t going to let Thor kill himself when they had a better option, especially after they just lost Natasha.

“So, they didn’t let Thor use the stones because Hulk was the better option to snap his fingers and survive.”

Another part of the theory also includes Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr), who may have conversed with Bruce about the risks attached with the gamma radiation in the Infinity Stones.

Bruce became the Hulk due to gamma radiation in the first place, and suggests Bruce knows it must be him before the discussion even began.

As well as this, it would mean Tony, when he ended up taking the stones during the battle to kill Thanos, knew the risk he put himself under.

Unfortunately for Tony, that selfless act would be his last, as the radiation killed him, leaving many others to feel the guilt of losing one of their leaders.

Fans will get the chance to see pre-Endgame Tony in the Black Widow film, if it ever makes its way to the cinema.
